Japan, Maldives sign agreement for USD 4 million in grant assistance

An agreement of JPY 500 million (USD 4.6 million) for an exchange of notes has been signed between Maldives and Japan under the Japanese None-Project Grant Aid.

The agreement was signed by Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Keiko Yanai. No further detail was provided by the Foreign Ministry regarding the agreement for the exchange of notes.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also met with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the President’s visit for the enthronement of Japan's Emperor Naruhito to the chrysanthemum throne. The two leaders spoke regarding various international issues and means of furthering the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Shahid, who is also accompanying the President during this trip met with his Japanese counterpart to discuss and develop the relationship between the two countries on the regional and international stage.
