Customs disposes of over 50,000 bottles of alcohol

Maldives Customs Service has disposed of over 50,000 bottles of alcohol and other contraband seized by the agency in its operations.

The contraband was disposed of in the presence of Customs officials and the local press at the K. Thilafushi waste disposal area on Monday, September 9.

Details of disposed contraband:

  • 51,612 alcohol bottles (19,785.15 liters)
  • 782 alcohol packets (2,460 liters)
  • 3 alcohol cans (0.99 liters)

Customs says the contraband was disposed of in accordance with the clauses 264, 423 and 424 of the general regulations of the agency, and the agency’s policy for disposal seized smuggled goods.
