Maldives signs 7 bilateral agreements with Seychelles

Maldives has signed seven bilateral agreements with fellow Indian Ocean island nation Seychelles.

The agreements were signed last Friday, during Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s state visit to Seychelles.

The agreements are:

• General Cooperation Agreement between Maldives and Seychelles
• MoU on Cooperation between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and Seychelles
• MoU on Tourism Development
• MoU on Cooperation in the Blue Economy Sector
• MoU on Cooperation in Climate Change
• MoU on Sports Cooperation
• MoU for Vocational Training and Youth Development Cooperation

President Solih has hailed the agreements as vital signs of willingness to further the cooperation between Maldives and Seychelles.

“The seven agreements and Memorandums of Understanding signed during this visit signals the willingness on our parts to exchange knowledge, increase cooperation, and move towards shared mutual progress,” said Solih, in statement following the signing ceremony.

“We are small island nations, with big dreams, and great determination. I believe it is our duty, as Leaders of our respective Governments, to navigate the shared tides and turbulences, to lead our people to the peaceful and prosperous destination that they desire,” he added.

Foreign Affairs Minister Abdulla Shahid, who accompanied Solih in his state visit to Seychelles, has expressed confidence the bilateral agreements signed between Maldives and Seychelles will pave the way for closer ties between the two island nations.
