Former Deputy Mayor Mohamed Areesh has been appointed Under Secretary at the President’s Office.
The appointment is listed on the President’s Office website, though the exact date of his posting has not been disclosed.
It is notable that while the President’s Office website has removed the profiles of state ministers and deputy ministers, their details remain available on the websites of the ministries they serve.
Areesh, who was elected to the fourth Male' City Council as the Maafannu West councillor on an MDP ticket, became Deputy Mayor on 16 March last year. He later signed up with the PNC after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was elected.
Areesh contested for a second term in the local council elections held last April but lost to incumbent councillor Mohamed Rizwan Ali by 365 votes. Rizwan received 1,040 votes, while Areesh received 675.
Several PNC candidates who lost the council elections have since been appointed to posts in various ministries.
