Chairperson of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), Hassan Latheef has made a tweet advocating action against high-level MDP officials who ran anti-campaigns against the party's own candidates during the parliamentary elections.
Hassan Latheef stated this in his reply to a tweet made by an individual stating if there were no actions to be taken against those who campaigned for the candidates competing against the party candidates.
In his tweet Hassan Latheef said that he believes campaigning against a candidate of the party while in a position of power of the party is a huge issue. He said that the party should take against those who did anti campaign.

MDP competed in all the constituencies except for F. Nilandhoo and A. Dh. Mahibadhoo constituencies in the Parliamentary Elections held on April 6, 2019. However, members of powerful position of the party were seen campaigning for candidates who were not from the party.
Moreover, members of MDP took part in the Parliamentary Elections as independent candidate after losing in the party’s primary, while others left the party in order to compete as independent candidates.
Abdulla Jabir who took part in the election as an independent candidate after losing in the party primary competed and won against the MDP candidate. No action has yet been taken by the Party, against Jabir.
