MDP to hold ‘Agenda 19 Justice Rally’ on Tuesday

Main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced plans to hold a rally, the Agenda ‘19 Justice Rally, on Tuesday evening.

The rally was announced by spokesperson for MDP’s parliamentary campaign, Afshan Latheef, during a press conference this Monday.

Afshan reports the rally will begin at 4:15 pm on Tuesday from the MDP Haruge in front of the Artificial Beach, and will be attended by former Maldivian President and Leader of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed.

The event is a rally to call for establishment of justice and judicial reform.

Afshan reports the party will be distributing leaflets containing information on its legislative agenda to reform the Maldivian judiciary during the rally.

“We appeal to as many of our members, supporters, reform activists and rights activist to partake in this rally as possible,” she said.

Afshan also announced that the second session of its Agenda ’19 serial panel discussions will be held at the Islamic University of Maldives’s auditorium at 9 pm this Monday.

The topic of this Monday’s panel discussion is reform of the structure of Maldivian judiciary and establishment of a public defenders’ office.

Attorney Husnu Al-Suood, Chairperson of the Commission for Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances; Attorney Hisaan Hussain; and Attorney Moosa Siraj will be taking part in the panel discussion.

The panel discussions are a weekly event designed to educate the public on topics in MDP’s legislative agenda.

The topic for the first week was establishment of interim justice, and establishment of an accountable administration.
