Elections Commission has accepted 76 candidacy forms and rejected 10 candidacy forms submitted by candidates of main ruling party - Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) - for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

MDP submitted the forms of 86 of its parliamentary candidates last Wednesday.

Spokesperson and member of EC, Ahmed Akram reported to ‘Sun’ this Sunday afternoon that the commission rejected candidacy forms of 10 MDP candidates due to incomplete information.

“We have accepted 76 forms and have informed the party of this. The remaining 10 forms have been dismissed for resubmission due to incomplete information,” said Akram.

Akram added that the commission has also received candidacy forms of five independent candidates, out of which three forms have now been accepted.

EC has set the deadline for submission of candidacy for the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 6 to February 21.
