Authorities have launched an investigation into a possible pig-derived gelatin porcine product circulating in the Maldivian market.
Gelatin is derived from the skins of pigs and cows or from demineralized animal bones.
Maldives Customs has issued a statement announcing it has launched an investigation based on social media and news media reports a gelatin porcine product derived from pigs has hit the Maldivian market.
The authority said the product in question is gelatin by the German brand – GELITA.
Maldives Customs said it is running an investigation in collaboration with Maldives Food and Drug Authority through which it is inspecting business which may be involved in import and distribution of the product.
Social media reports show the product did not have the ‘Halal’ seal and hit the Maldivian market in November.
