Maldives Customs Service seized over three kilograms of drugs that had been smuggled into the country through post on Saturday.
According to Customs, the drugs were discovered during an inspection of a postal package which was suspected to contain illicit substances. A search of the package led to the seizure of 3,252 grams of cannabis.
Maldives Police Service has not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the seizure.
Authorities have previously reported cases involving the smuggling of large quantities of drugs through the post. In similar incidents, individuals attempting to collect the packages have been arrested and subsequently sentenced to prison terms.
Maldives Customs Service has reiterated that all incoming postal packages are subject to scanning, with suspicious items being separated for detailed manual inspection.
