Former Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Azeema Adam has been served summons by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning.

‘Sun’ has been informed Azeema is being sought for questioning on ACC’s investigation into MMA’s involvement in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal.

Azeema, who currently resides in the United States, has confirmed to ‘Sun’ that she has received summons by the ACC. Azeema said she will return to Maldives this November and present herself at the ACC for questioning.

She said she was ready to make her case to defend her integrity.

Vice President of ACC, Muvavviz Rasheed said the commission was currently in the duty prosecution process, during which the commission is questioning and taking statements from several parties before sending the case over the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The MVR 1.22 billion MMPRC embezzlement scandal is the biggest embezzlement scandal to hit the Maldives in its history. Former MMA Governor Azeema has denied allegations she was involved in the scandal.
