ACC and STELCO ink MOU to work together to fight corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and State Electric Company (STELCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Monday, agreeing to work together to combat corruption.

The agreement was signed by ACC’s president Adam Shamil and STELCO’s managing director Dr. Ali Azwar.

According to ACC, the agreement focuses on working together to prevent corruption and enhance integrity.

It also covers anti-corruption training opportunities, and collaboration in implementing recommendations and instructions by the commission to combat corruption.

ACC added that they will also be providing expertise for workshops and conferences focused on enhancing the integrity of STELCO’s employees.

The agreement stipulates that STELCO must share paperwork and information for ACC’s investigations as soon as possible, and provide cooperation in having employees brought in for questioning.

STELCO has also agreed to follow ACC’s recommendations in introducing anti-corruption policies, and reducing the risk of corruption in formulating the company’s policies.

The agreement also covers the exchange of expertise and resources between the two institutions.

The state utility company STELCO has been plagued with allegations of corruption throughout different Maldivian administrations, including political hirings.
