Police launch operation to maintain security during elections

Maldives Police Service has launched a special operation, named Operation Blue Wave 2018, to maintain security during Presidential Elections 2018 which will be held on September 23.

Operation Blue Wave 2018 was launched by Acting Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Nawaz during a meeting of police commanders held at Iskandhar Building this Monday morning.

After launching the operation, Nawaz said all police commanders should work to ensure the elections ends with peace and security maintained in the country. He also appealed to all police officers to ensure the elections is conducted peacefully in the atolls despite the various challenges.

Officers taking part in Operation Blue Wave 2018 have now been dispatched to the atolls and already operating in the atolls and Male’ City.

MPS says officers are already conducting special elections-related operations in Male’ City and that the authority will be giving extra attention to strengthening security in the atolls as well.

The meeting this Monday morning was attended by Commander of Operation Blue Wave 2018 – Assistant Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed, executive officers, heads of police departments, as well as heads of police divisions who participated via video call.
