The local council of N. Manadhoo on Thursday invited bids for large plots of land from the island for livestock farming.

According to the council, five 1,000 square feet plots to the west of Dhoonikoshi Magu are available for cattle farming.

The plots are being leased for 10 years.

Bidding starts at MVR 0.80 per square feet.

Interested parties have been asked to submit their proposals, including a detailed plan of what they plan to do at the land, to the council office at 01:00 pm on November 12.

According to the council, the livestock allowed at the farms will be limited to goat, cow, rabbit, duck and chicken.

Council states that 50 percent of the points will depend on the proposed price, 25 percent on the proposal, and the remaining 25 percent on proposed corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Livestock farming in the Maldives is limited due to the small land area of the islands, with most operations focusing on small-scale poultry, goat, or horse facilities rather than large commercial cattle ranches.
