Four middle-aged individuals were arrested last Saturday on suspicion of drug use, possession, sale and trafficking.
According to the Police, the suspects were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence. Those arrested comprise three men aged 38, 41 and 45, and a 41-year-old woman.
During the investigation, police searched three residences in Malé and seized 111.15 grammes of suspected narcotics.
According to court orders concerning the 38-year-old and 41-year-old male suspects, drugs, drug packaging materials and a sales ledger were discovered at one of the houses searched. The court order for the 45-year-old suspect states that drugs were found in a bag near the staircase of the residence where he lives with his partner, the 41-year-old female suspect. During the hearing, the investigating officer stated that the area where the drugs were found leads exclusively to the suspect’s room, and that keys found in his possession opened the locks to the area.
The investigating officer also highlighted that narcotics, packaging materials and a sales ledger were found in plain sight inside a first-floor apartment at the suspect’s permanent address.
However, the suspect told the court that he had moved out of the house five years ago and had since been living in a rented property. He further argued that the area where the drugs were allegedly found was accessible to the public and maintained that no belongings of his had been discovered there.
The court has remanded all four suspects in custody for five days.
The Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
