The Sri Lankan government has donated a consignment of essential medicines worth over Rs. 5 million (approximately MVR 250,000) to the Maldives.
The donation was handed over to the Maldives in a ceremony held on Thursday at the Sri Lanka Health and Mass Media Ministry in Colombo.
The donation was made following a request by Maldivian Health Minister Geela Ali, and was formally handed over by Sri Lankan Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa to Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Masood Imad.
The donation was supported by the Medical Supplies Division, the State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation and the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry of Sri Lanka.
At the handover ceremony, Masood Imad expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lankan government, led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, highlighting the longstanding friendship and close ties between the two countries.
The ceremony was also attended by Sri Lankan Health Ministry officials and representatives of the pharmaceutical sector.
The donation follows high-level visits between the Maldives and Sri Lanka earlier this year. Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited Sri Lanka in May last year, while Sri Lankan President Dissanayake visited the Maldives in July of this year.
