Mariyam Dheena Solih (L) attends a Criminal Court hearing with her lawyer.
Mariyam Dheena Solih, the former head of procurement at Fenaka Corporation, was on Sunday found guilty of corruption in connection to a procurement contract awarded back in 2018.
The conviction comes over a year after Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, who was serving as the company’s managing director at the time, was sentenced to four years in prison in the same case.
While the Criminal Court found Dheena guilty on Sunday, it has yet to sentence her.
The case against Dheena and Saeed stems from an MVR 848,000 contract signed between the state utility service provider and Blazon Inc in 2018.
An investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) uncovered that Blazon was paid by Fenaka before they completed the contracted work and without checking if they had completed the work.
In December 2024, both Saeed and Dheena - were charged with misuse of official authority in the case.
But while Saeed was convicted on September 28, 2025, the case against Dheena had remained held-up at court.
The court is set to hold a hearing soon to decide on Dheena’s sentence.
Fenaka, which is heavily in debt, has been plagued with allegations of corruption throughout different Maldivian administrations. The company is now in the process of getting merged with State Electric Company (STELCO).
