Dh. Meedhoo MP and Sun Siyam Group Chairman and Managing Director Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has urged parents to work hand-in-hand with teachers, stating that as Maldives celebrates International Teachers’ Day on Monday, families must be determined to give their full support to the hard work and national service carried out by educators.
In his Teachers’ Day message, Siyam thanked God for granting the blessing of witnessing the occasion and extended warm greetings to all teachers, students, parents, and the people of Maldives.
Siyam noted that the purpose of marking Teachers’ Day is to recognise the hard, responsible, and nation-building work done by teachers, and to ensure they receive the benefits, respect, and protection they rightfully deserve.
In his message, Siyam made a significant appeal to parents. He said that while celebrating Teachers’ Day, parents should resolve to fully cooperate with the religious and national duty teachers fulfill in providing proper education and upbringing to children.
He further urged parents to set a good example for students and instill in them the noble character of respecting teachers.
Siyam also called on authorities to ensure full wages, allowances, and complete protection for all teachers without discrimination.
He offered valuable advice to teachers as well, stating that they must remain determined to fulfil the noble trust of educating students with complete honesty and sincerity. He also urged teachers to safeguard students and ensure they are never harmed.
UNESCO declared October 5 as Teachers’ Day in 1994, based on a recommendation issued in 1966 by its branch, the International Labour Organization. The theme of this year’s Teachers’ Day is "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, Advancing its status and Shaping our futures".
