Siyam: Technology is driving change, but human connection will remain at heart of Maldives hospitality

Human connection will always remain at the heart of Maldivian hospitality, says Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, chairman and managing director of Sun Siyam Group, urging the tourism industry to harness digital innovation to complement rather than replace what makes the Maldives truly unique.

He made the remarks in a post on X on Sunday on occasion of World Tourism Day 2026, celebrated under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”.

“On World Tourism Day, I want to recognize everyone who makes tourism in the Maldives so special; our hardworking people in the hospitality and our local communities,” he said.

He said that this year’s theme is a reminder that while technology is changing the way people travel, the human connection will always remain at the heart of hospitality.

“Let us embrace innovation while staying true to what makes the Maldives unique,” he said.

Siyam is the chairman and managing director of Sun Siyam Group, a diverse collection of companies based in the Maldives. This includes the Sun Siyam Resorts, a prominent resort chain that he founded in 1990.

Hailing from a humble background, his dedication and passion for the tourism industry led to him being renowned as one of the most energetic and visionary business leaders in the country.

He has collected a multitude of awards during his career, including the national award in recognition of his work towards the sustainable development of tourism in the Maldives.

In addition to being a businessman Siyam is also a veteran politician, serving as the president of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), and as the longtime parliamentary representative for the Dh. Meedhoo constituency.
