Criminal Court has sentenced Ahmed Naeem to seven years in prison after finding him guilty of showing a child a sexual act.

While Ahmed Naeem was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on the charge, the court ruled that two additional charges filed against him by the state for grooming a child for sexual abuse had not been proven.

The charge of exposing a child to sexual acts was filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office under Section 6(a) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Act No. 12/2009).

Following the conviction, the court sentenced Ahmed Naeem to seven years in prison under Section 6(b) of the same Act.

With regard to the two charges of grooming a child for sexual abuse, the presiding judge ruled that the allegations had not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, as required under Article 51(h) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

Due to the sensitive nature of cases involving matters concerning minors, the full trial report has not been made available on the court’s website.
