Maldivian Coast Guard captures foreign fishing vessel off Dhiffushi

The Maldives Coast Guard has captured a foreign vessel caught fishing off K. Dhiffushi.

According to the MNDF, the vessel, with six people aboard, were intercepted 123 nautical miles to the east of Dhiffushi on Wednesday.

We are working on taking the vessel to Male’, added the MNDF.

When asked about which country the vessel was from, a spokesperson from the MNDF told Sun that the information was not available at this time.

The incident comes after two foreign oil tankers that were in the custody of Maldives Customs after being discovered near Male’ in April after entering the Maldivian waters illegally drifted amid rough seas and heavy rain, with one of the tankers crashing into the Sinamale’ Bridge, and the other wrecking on the reef, before sinking around 30 nautical miles outside Maldivian waters.
