A man who fled after hitting a parked car in Hulhumale' was arrested on Monday evening, and police later found bottles of liquor in his vehicle.
Police said the incident occurred around 7:10pm, Hulhumale' Phase II, when a moving vehicle collided with a car parked on Berebedhimaa Hingun. Officers located the suspect shortly after and took him into custody for failing to stop at the scene.
A search of the vehicle, conducted on suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, revealed one bottle containing liquor and two empty bottles.
The suspect, Ghufran Khalid, 26, of Nest/L. Kalaidhoo, was arrested in connection with the case.
He was produced before the court for a remand hearing and was ordered to be held in custody for 10 days. Police said the case is under investigation.
Liquor-related arrests have become increasingly common in Hulhumale, with many recent cases involving both locals and foreigners.
