Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was accorded a ceremonial welcome to Male’ on Tuesday morning, marking the official beginning of his maiden visit to the Maldives.
The ceremony commenced at the Republic Square in Male’ City, where Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu formally received PM Anwar.
Students of Dharumavantha School presented a cultural performance, which followed a 21-gun salute by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
The national anthems of Malaysia and the Maldives were played, followed by a guard of honor, and the presentation of host and visiting delegation dignitaries.
The two leaders then walked to the President’s Office, where PM Anwar signed the guest book.
The President’s Office states that PM Anwar will hold official talks with President Muizzu focused on strengthening bilateral ties. The two leaders are also scheduled to witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and deliver press statements on the outcomes of their discussions.
PM Anwar’s current trip marks his maiden visit to the Maldives since assuming office in November 2022.
