The High Commission of the Maldives in Malaysia has announced that the funeral prayer for Aminath Imilee Nazim, a 21-year-old Maldivian student from Maarish, S. Hithadhoo, who died in a fatal road accident on Sunday night, will be held in Malaysia on Tuesday.
According to the High Commission, the funeral prayer for Imilee will be held after Maghrib prayers at Masjid Al-Irsyad in Subang Jaya, Selangor. The family has appealed to Maldivians residing in Malaysia to attend the funeral prayer in large numbers.
Imilee died after the taxi she was traveling in was involved in an accident while she was returning home from a mall.
Subang Jaya District Police Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan said the accident occurred at approximately 20:48pm on Sunday near the PJS Toll Plaza along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), in the direction of Puchong. According to investigators, the accident occurred after the 37-year-old taxi driver lost control of the vehicle and had a high-impact collision with the rear right side of a Proton S70 that was heading towards the RFID lane.
The taxi overturned following the collision, leaving Imilee trapped inside the vehicle. She sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another Maldivian student who was traveling in the taxi sustained only minor injuries.
Urine tests conducted on both drivers subsequently showed that the taxi driver had tested positive for methamphetamine. A court has since ordered that the driver be remanded for four days to assist with the ongoing police investigation.
