Three arrested in midnight speeding incident in Milandhoo, all test positive for drugs

Three men have been remanded in custody for five days after testing positive for drugs following a dangerous high-speed motorcycle chase in Sh. Milandhoo.

The incident occurred at 12:15 am near Snack-Out Cafe'. Police attempted to stop the motorcyclists who were speeding and driving recklessly, but they disobeyed orders and fled. According to the arrest report, one of the riders swerved and fell while being pursued. Despite falling, he shrugged off officers who reached him, got back on the motorcycle, and fled again.

The other two men, who were on a second motorcycle, parked near the stone jetty on the eastern side of the island and hid in the area with the motorcycle keys.

One of the three arrested is a 26-year-old man from Milandhoo. His urine tested positive for AMP, OPIs, benzodiazepines and CAT, according to the closure report. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

The second suspect is a 34-year-old man from the island, whose urine tested positive for AMP, THC, OPIs, benzodiazepines and CAT.

A third man was also arrested in connection with the incident. His urine tested positive for AMP, THC, OPIs, benzodiazepines and CAT, though he claimed the result may have been caused by medication taken for sinusitis.

Chief Judicial Magistrate for Shaviyani Atoll, Hassan Shiyam, ordered all three men to be remanded for five days, citing the danger posed by speeding on public roads while under the influence, and the possibility of witness tampering and destruction of evidence.
