Oil tanker swept by strong currents collides with Sinamale' Bridge pillar

A large oil tanker crashed into a pillar on the Sinamale' Bridge tonight.

Videos circulating on social media show the tanker being swept toward the bridge by strong currents before losing control and striking one of the pillars.

Weather conditions across the country, including Male' area, have been severe this Thursday, with rough seas and strong winds reported.

The extent of damage to the bridge and the vessel remains unknown at this time.

MNDF Coast Guard is currently operating in the area.
