MMBC sets 27 October deadline for re-registration of news agencies and magazines

The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has announced that the registrations of news agencies and magazines that fail to re-register under the new regulations will be cancelled after October 27, 2026.

MMBC said the requirement is made under the News Agencies and Magazine Registration Regulations (2026/R-27), which mandate all outlets to re-register and update their records within six months.

The Commission stated that October 27, 2026 is the final deadline for submitting re-registration applications and completing records. Outlets that do not meet the deadline will have their registrations cancelled in accordance with the regulations.

MMBC also urged all responsible persons of news agencies and magazines to update and complete their records as required.

Previously, news agencies were registered with the Ministry of Youth. Following the establishment of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission, the responsibility for registration now lies with MMBC.
