The Police have launched an investigation into the possible involvement of the mother in the case in where a father has been accused of sexually abusing their three-year-old daughter and recording the abuse.

The Police, on Monday, said that a 28-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order on Friday for alleged sexual abuse of a three-year-old child and recording the abuse on an island within the southern central police division.

He has been remanded in custody for 30 days upon presentation before the court on the same day as his arrest.

The Police confirmed to Sun that the individual arrested in connection with the case is the child's father.

On Tuesday, the Police stated that, following allegations concerning the mother, authorities are investigating whether she had any involvement in the matter and, if so, the extent of her alleged complicity.

The Police added that it is working with the Health Ministry and other relevant authorities to assess the situation and ensure the child's safety, emphasizing that necessary measures are being taken to protect the minor.

Notably, there has been a significant rise in cases of child sexual abuse and neglect in the Maldives.
