Police arrest father accused of recording sexual abuse of his three-year-old daughter

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl and recording the acts, police said.

Police said the 28-year-old Maldivian man was arrested on a warrant on Friday in connection with allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl and recording the scenes on an island under the South Central Police Division.

He was produced before the court the same day for a remand hearing and was ordered to remain in custody for 30 days, an official said.

Police confirmed to Sun that the child’s father has been arrested.

Police are continuing the investigation. No further details have been released as the case is ongoing.

Child sexual abuse and neglect cases have been increasing in the Maldives, a serious social concern frequently highlighted by the public.
