The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has announced that applications for 49 party positions will open during the first week of September.
According to an announcement by the PNC on Sunday night, applications for the positions of Vice President, members of the Party Council, and leadership posts within the Women’s and Youth wings will be accepted from September 1 to September 8.
The announcement states that the following positions will be contested at the party’s National Congress:
Applicants for the positions must not have a record of any major criminal offense.
The PNC has instructed interested members to submit their applications through a designated online portal. Applicants are also required to provide a criminal record clearance and a police report issued within the previous 30 days.
The PNC National Congress is scheduled to be held from September 15 to September 18.
Eight prominent figures have already expressed interest in contesting for the position of Vice President. Among them are current Vice Presidents, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Local Government Authority (LGA)’s CEO Mohamed Nimal, Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), and Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau.
