Farmer grants and loans shifted to Islamic finance, applications open

The second round of the “Dhanduveri Manfaa” Agribusiness Matching Grant Programme and the “Dhanduveri Nafaa” loan scheme has been launched.

The Ministry of Agriculture said the grant scheme is part of the MVR 15 million matching grant component under the Maldives Agribusiness Programme (MAP), implemented in collaboration with the Ministry and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Both schemes are being carried out through SME Digital.

According to the Ministry, the two schemes aim to increase youth participation in agriculture and support national development.

The “Dhanduveri Manfaa” grant is targeted at farmers, agricultural associations and small and medium enterprises in Thiladhummathi and Shaviyani atolls. The second round also supports climate-smart production, including greenhouse installation and the establishment of modern growing media such as hydroponics. Applications can be submitted through the SME Digital portal.

The Ministry said the “Dhanduveri Nafaa” loan is designed to help farmers establish modern farming facilities. The scheme also provides financing for veterinary services and pet supply needs.
