Police and Corrections complete extensive three-week operation across prison facilities

A major joint operation by the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Correctional Service to strengthen security across the country’s prisons has been successfully completed.

The three-week operation was conducted in four phases from 22 June to 13 July, covering Male’, Hulhumale’, Kaafu Maafushi and Himmafushi. It was overseen by Specialist Operations and led by Superintendent of Police Ishaq Adam, who commanded the multi-agency teams involved.

According to police, the operation brought together a wide range of specialised units. SO’s SWAT team and canine unit, along with Male’ Police, Hulhumale’ Police, Drug Enforcement and Marine Police, carried out extensive searches inside prison facilities and surrounding areas. In addition, teams from protective security, media, intelligence, forensics, major crime investigation, and family and child protection contributed key support functions throughout the operation.

The Maldives Correctional Service said this was one of the most comprehensive and successful joint operations conducted to date to reinforce prison security. The service noted that the coordinated effort allowed for thorough inspections and strengthened monitoring mechanisms inside the facilities.

Superintendent Ishaq expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between departments, saying the operation achieved its intended objectives due to the unified work of all participating institutions. He highlighted that the combined expertise of police units and correctional officers enabled the operation to be completed efficiently and with strong results.
