The People’s National Front (PNF) has shared concerns with the Elections Commission (EC) regarding difficulties faced by members of the public when using the national digital ID system, eFaas.
Speaking to reporters after Monday’s meeting, PNF Secretary General Mohamed Maleeh Jamal said political parties are facing increasing challenges in recruiting members due to technical issues encountered on eFaas.
Maleeh said elderly people living in the atolls are among the most affected, noting that many do not have phone numbers or email addresses that match the information required to access eFaas. As a result, they struggle to complete membership registration or other political processes.
The PNF has called on the EC, the Home Ministry and the Local Governance Authority (LGA) to work together to find a long‑term solution to the issue.

Maleeh added that similar difficulties had caused some people to lose their electoral rights during the last local council elections.
He said EC members assured the party that they would work to resolve the issues and would not act under the influence of the government.
A constitutional case was previously filed in the High Court during the council elections, challenging the requirement to use eFaas for filing candidacies and for independent candidates to submit support forms. The court, however, declined to accept the case at the time.
