Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam departed for China on an official visit on Wednesday.
The Foreign Ministry said Iruthisham is undertaking a two‑day visit, during which she will attend the China–South Asia Cooperation Forum in Yunnan Province.
Iruthisham will deliver a keynote address at the forum and will also attend the 10th China–South Asia Expo. The ministry said she will meet senior officials of Yunnan Province and Maldivian students living in the region.
Additional Secretary Amin Javid Faizal and Director Mariam Bassama Farooq are accompanying her on the visit.
China is one of the Maldives’ largest development partners, and the government has made significant efforts to maintain close ties with Beijing. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made China his first official foreign visit after taking office.
Iruthisham was appointed Foreign Minister on April 14. Her first overseas trip in the role was to India.
