Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu offered warm congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, after he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.

In a post on X on Wednesday morning, President Muizzu said that the Maldives “looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with India, guided by mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared interests.”

Having first assumed office on May 26, 2014, Modi has completed 4,399 consecutive days as Prime Minister, overtaking the record of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 uninterrupted days as the head of an elected government after the first general elections in 1952.

Modi has visited the Maldives four times during his tenure, the first of which was in 2018 to attend the inauguration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

His second visit came in 2019, marking his first official bilateral trip after winning his second term.

He visited a third time in late 2023 to attend the oath-taking ceremony of President Muizzu. And his fourth and most recent visit was a state visit in July 2025 to celebrate Maldives’ 60th Independence Day.
