The Sun Siyam Group has successfully wrapped up this year’s edition of its annual blood drive to celebrate the group’s 36th anniversary.
Sun Siyam Resorts’ anniversary falls on May 8, coinciding with Thalassemia Day. The group holds an annual blood drive each year at its head office and resorts to celebrate its anniversary.
The Sun Siyam Group held six blood camps this year, the last of which was held on Saturday, during which employees of the group’s head office in Male’ along with their family members donated blood at the Maldivian Blood Services (MBS) office in Hulhumale’.
A lot of employees of the head office and family members voluntarily donated blood during the event.
Sun Siyam Group’s annual blood drive has seen a year-on-year increase in the number of donors.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Saturday to mark the successful conclusion of this year’s blood drive, the group’s Director of Human Resources and Talent Development, Ahmed Ibrahim said that the initiative goes beyond a simple celebration of its anniversary.
He said that the group treats the initiative as a noble cause that helps save lives.
“I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the senior officials and employees of the Maldivian Blood Services, as well as our senior officials, especially our chairman and MD Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, our CEO, and the management. I thank them for the priority and cooperation they give to this initiative,” he said.
Ahmed noted that the group launched the initiative back in 2015, and has held it for around 11 years, except for a brief hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He expressed delight at seeing a higher number of donors this year than the last.
Dr. Ahmed Umar, Senior Specialist Registrar, Pediatrics, at the MBS, thanked Sun Siyam Group’s employees for their initiative in holding a blood drive each year.
He hopes to see more such programs in the future.
“I hope to see more parties take this initiative as an example and join in and put a stop the culture where people in need of blood in the Maldives are forced to beg for it,” he said.
Azza Hameed, the coordinator of Sun Siyam Group’s anniversary blood donation camp, stressed that donating blood is a simple yet noble act of humanity.
She said that it helps save countless lives and gives renewed hope to many families.
Azza said that the annual blood drive that the group began in 2015 has become an important anniversary tradition.
“We take great pride in seeing this initiative expand and grow each year. Over 500 people donated blood this year, marking a huge success that demonstrates the awareness, compassion and unity within our team,” she said.
Azza said that each year has proven to be more successful than the last, and expects even greater success next year.
This year’s blood drive began at Sun Siyam Olhuveli on May 9, and continued at Sun Siyam Vilu Reef, Sun Siyam Iru Veli, the group’s biggest resort Siyam World, and Sun Siyam Iru Fushi.
