The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a case where a man allegedly threatened to sell his ex-wife to another individual.
In a statement to the media on Friday evening, the Police confirmed that a complaint was lodged at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 Police Station earlier today, by woman who was allegedly subjected to threats by her ex-husband.
According to the complainant, the suspect threatened that he would sell her to another person.
The Police emphasized that the case does not involve any allegations of sexual abuse. They further clarified that there is no evidence or claim indicating that the woman was actually sold or that any form of human trafficking transaction took place.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.
