Police overhaul administrative structure ‘to improve efficiency’

The Maldives Police Service have implemented major changes to its administrative structure – changes that the agency states are aimed at improving operational efficiency, productivity and quality of services.

According to the police, the changes took effect Monday.

The police stated that the agency was working on appointing officers, making necessary changes to administrative policies, and other work to implement the changes.

Under the new structure, the police have created designated commands for police services, investigative divisions, intelligence, forensics, operational support, technology, training and corporate support.

The commands under the new structure are:

  • Office of the Commissioner
  • National College of Policing and Law Enforcement
  • Professional Standards
  • National Intelligence Service
  • Internal Security and Operational Support
  • Forensic Services
  • Central Investigations
  • Male’ Police
  • Hulhumale’ Police
  • Northern Police
  • Southern Police
  • Service Development
  • Service Support
  • Digital Data and Technology

Police stated that the new structure is designed to strengthen inter-departmental connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and establish a policing system that works closely with the people.

The police added that the changes were also designed to expand the role of frontline officers, and optimize resources based on changes to peace and security landscape in the Maldives.
