Sun Online, one of the most trusted and credible names in the Maldivian media industry, is celebrating its 19th anniversary today.

Throughout its nearly two-decade-long journey, the news outlet has remained steadfast in its commitment to delivering accurate news and information to the public. Looking ahead, the publication aims to maintain its course by upholding the highest ethical standards of journalism.

Reflecting on this milestone, Mohamed Asif (Mondhu), the CEO of Sun Siyam Media, underscored that the outlet is one of the longest-running continuous news outlet in the Maldives. He expressed profound satisfaction that Sun remains the primary choice for news and information for a vast majority of the public.

According to latest statistics, Sun Online’s daily hits exceed 100,000, which Mondhu highlighted as clear evidence of its enduring popularity. Attributing the success of the outlet to its leadership, Asif stated: "Our progress is made possible by the unwavering support of our chairman, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed. I gratefully acknowledge his commitment to maintaining an independent media free from undue influence."

He also extended his gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the outlet’s growth over the past 19 years.

“A long history of 19 years. This milestone was achieved through the hard work of many people. I sincerely extend my gratitude to them,” he said.

Commenting on Sun Online’s editorial policy, Managing Editor Ahmed Saail Ali emphasized that the national interest and the welfare of the public remain the publication's top priorities. He assured readers that Sun Online would never disseminate misinformation. Saail further remarked that the primary responsibility of journalists is to guide the nation on the right path and contribute to its development, a principle that Sun Online continues to uphold.

"Sun’s journalism aimed to achieve the core objectives of this power bestowed in a democratic society. We have no other agenda," he added.

Sun Online’s history traces back to its inception in 2007 as 'Iru Observer.' Over time, it evolved to keep pace with modern trends and rebranded as Sun Online. Previously, the Sun Media umbrella successfully operated Sun FM and Sun TV. Today, under Sun Siyam Media, the company continues to manage popular products such as SSTV and Sun Play alongside its flagship news site, playing a pivotal role in the Maldivian media landscape.
