The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development says 72.17 percent of the Thilamale' Bridge project has now been completed, with major structural components advancing steadily.

According to the ministry, work is ongoing to cast and install the segments required for the bridge deck. Of the 1,222 segments needed, 86 percent have been cast, while around 60 percent have already been installed.

The ministry said construction of the link road connecting the bridge to Gulhifalhu is also underway. In Thilafushi, work is progressing on revetments and culverts, which form part of the bridge’s approach infrastructure.

The update comes as the project continues to face public scrutiny over delays. Background information shows that earlier phases were slowed by contractor‑level issues, supply‑chain disruptions and changes to the sequencing of works, factors that pushed the project beyond its original timeline.

The ministry said the current administration has taken steps to resolve outstanding technical and administrative issues and is working closely with the contractor to maintain momentum on the remaining components.

Once completed, the Thilamale' Bridge will connect Male', Vilimale', Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi, forming one of the largest transport links in the country. The ministry said it will continue to provide progress updates as the project moves toward its final stages.
