Infrastructure Ministry opens applications for Engineers Award; deadline set for August 20

Nominations for the Engineers Award opened on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. The ministry said the construction sector remains one of the most important pillars of the Maldivian economy, and the award aims to recognise the hard work of Maldivian engineers and professionals contributing to national development.

The Engineers Award will be presented across 10 categories, including:

• Engineer of the Year

• Lifetime Achievement Award

• Young Engineer Award

• Women in Engineering Award

• Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award

• Sustainability Champion Award

• Engineering Consultant / Consultancy Firm of the Year

• Student Innovator Award

• Community Impact Award

• Contractor of the Year Award

The ministry said nominations will remain open until 14:00 on August 20. Application forms, required documents and affidavits will be available online, and interested applicants may email [email protected] for further information.

According to the regulations governing the Engineers Award, applicants must be Maldivian and must have made notable contributions to the field of engineering. The Young Engineer Award is reserved for professionals under the age of 30.

The ministry noted that the award is open to individual engineers, teams, organisations, contractors, consultants, state-owned enterprises, government institutions and academic or research groups providing engineering services in the Maldives.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared August 30 as National Engineers’ Day last year, marking the anniversary of the Sinamale' Bridge inauguration.
