The Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf, was sacked on Wednesday.
An MTCC media officer confirmed the dismissal to Sun, but did not provide further details.
He was reportedly dismissed following instructions from the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) to reduce staffing in order to cut costs in government‑owned companies.
Ahmed Shareef previously served as Executive Director of Regional Airports Company Limited. He was appointed to a senior position at MTCC after the current government came to power.
Following the April 4 council elections, major changes are being made in the government structure and in senior positions across state‑owned companies.
The changes are expected to be part of the government’s efforts to strengthen corporate governance and reduce costs.
Shareef, who hails from Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, was dismissed at a time when the opposition MDP won the Hinnavaru council seats and the PNC suffered a major defeat in the island.
