The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has urged the public to prioritize mental well-being and refrain from spreading misinformation following a series of recent tragic incidents that have caused significant psychological distress within the community.

In a press release following multiple tragic deaths, the Ministry called on both the public and the media to avoid disseminating unverified or false information, as well as distressing images and videos of sensitive scenes that could adversely affect others during such vulnerable periods.

"We are deeply concerned by the recent tragic incidents in our community that have caused psychological distress. At this time, we urge everyone to communicate with compassion, responsibility, and kindness," the statement read.

The Health Ministry emphasized that every human life is a sacred trust. It noted that unsubstantiated narratives circulated on social media can have severe emotional consequences for mentally vulnerable individuals and the families of the deceased. The Ministry, therefore, urged that messages of hope, encouragement, and support be prioritized.

"Every human life is a profound and valuable trust. In the journey of life, everyone encounters moments of both joy and sorrow. The stories we circulate and the information we share on social media can cause irreparable distress to mentally vulnerable individuals and the families of those who have passed," the Ministry's statement added.

Furthermore, highlighting that safeguarding one another’s well-being is a shared national responsibility, the Ministry encouraged families and friends to check in on each other regularly.

"We encourage families, friends, and the entire community to join together to check on one another’s well-being and to offer care without discrimination. Listening attentively to someone or offering a small act of kindness can become a powerful force in saving a life," the statement said.

To support individuals experiencing mental health challenges, the National Mental Health Helpline (1677) has been established to provide round-the-clock psychological assistance. The Ministry encouraged those in need to seek help through this service without delay.

The Ministry is currently collaborating with professionals and relevant institutions to further strengthen both short-term and long-term mental health services. Additionally, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a robust system capable of delivering sustainable support to the community.

This appeal from the Ministry follows several recent tragic incidents, with images and videos of these events continuing to circulate on social media despite repeated calls from authorities to refrain from such actions.
