Man sentenced to 16 years for sexual abuse of 11-year-old girl

A man from Male’ City has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old girl.

The Criminal Court issued the sentence on Wednesday.

Mohamed Anil, 47, M. Muniyaage, K. Male, was tried under the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Sexual Abuse Offenders of Children.

On Wednesday, the court found Anil guilty of the charge, and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.

The four months and 19 days he has spent in detention was omitted from his sentence, leaving him with 15 years, seven months and 11 days left to serve.

In a statement on Sunday, the police described the conviction as a win for the agency in its efforts to stop and investigate child sex predators and bring them to justice.
