The Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced Ali Shaahil, Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo, to three years, one month and six days in prison on two charges linked to the 2022 murder of 22‑year‑old musician Shiaau Mohamed Saeed.
Shiaau was found brutally murdered, her body decapitated and severely desecrated, inside an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereen Villa on August 6, 2022. Several of the charges raised against Shaahil in the case have been kept confidential, and Tuesday’s sentencing covered only two of them.
The court has yet to issue verdicts on the remaining charges, which include intentional homicide.
Shaahil has been held in custody since August 7, 2022, after the Criminal Court ordered his remand pending trial.
Police previously stated that the post‑mortem report showed Shiaau had suffered severe injuries after death, and that the findings indicated she died from injuries inflicted by Shaahil.
The Criminal Court earlier said it expected to deliver the remaining verdicts later this month.
