The Addu City Council has announced a city‑wide clean‑up programme as dengue cases continue to rise across the city.

The council said the initiative aims to eliminate mosquito‑breeding sites and curb the rapid spread of dengue. The clean‑up will take place this Saturday across all districts of Addu.

Residents have been urged to remove garbage, containers, and any items that collect stagnant water before April 23.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), dengue cases increased in March compared to February. 525 cases were reported in March, up from 428 cases in February.

The HPA advises the public to wear body‑covering clothing, use mosquito repellent, and regularly clear areas where water collects. Those infected are advised to drink plenty of fluids and seek medical care if fever persists for more than three days.

A 23‑year‑old man died on Monday after contracting dengue fever.
