The High Court has again dismissed the appeal forms submitted for two convictions against Ali Shaahil of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed.

According to the High Court registry, appeals filed in a drug case and a possession-of-pornography case were dismissed on Thursday. Both cases had previously been dismissed once before.

Shiaau was found decapitated and severely mutilated inside an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereen Villa in Male’ City on August 6, 2022, in what remains one of the most gruesome crimes ever recorded in the Maldives.

The nature of some of the charges raised against Shaahil in the murder case has been kept confidential. The Criminal Court ordered Shaahil to remain in custody on August 7, 2022, pending trial.

Police earlier said Shiaau’s post-mortem report showed she had suffered severe injuries after death, and that the findings indicated she died from wounds inflicted by Shaahil.

The Criminal Court had earlier said it was expecting to deliver a verdict in the case later this month.
