Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) imposed strict controls on the supply of its canned tuna in oil on Wednesday, two days after it increased the price of the product, only to reverse the decision hours later.

Sun has learnt that MIFCO has limited the supply of canned tuna chunks in oil to one case per customer – including individual customers and businesses.

The supply limit is solely for canned tuna in oil, and not for any other product produced by MIFCO.

The move comes after MIFCO increased the price of its canned tuna in oil on Tuesday, citing an increase in production cost due to the surge in global fuel prices as a result of the war in the Middle East. But the company reversed the decision hours later, following public backlash.
