Three close relatives of MP Asma Rasheed have been dismissed from senior government positions.
Her son, Maldives’ Ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), and her sister, Maldives’ Permanent Representative to Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, were both removed from their posts.
In addition, a family member told Sun that Asma's daughter Aminath Hussain Shareef, who served as the State Minister for Fisheries, has also been dismissed.
The three were dismissed following the circulation of an audio clip on social media in which the government was heavily criticised.
Their removal comes at a time when the PNC suffered a major defeat in Saturday’s local council elections.
