Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed (Two Four) was appointed as the Commissioner of Police on Sunday, making him the third police chief to be appointed over the last two years.

Applications for the role of Commissioner of Police opened after Ismail Naveen retired from the police force on February 18, after over 32 years of service. Naveen had been appointed as Commissioner of Police on June 10, 2025, after his predecessor, Ali Shujau, abruptly resigned on April 26, 2025, and later retired from the police force.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Two Four to the vacancy in a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday morning.

Two Four, who is the third police chief to be appointed over the last two years, had joined the police force in 1995. During his 30 years of service, Two Four served head of various police divisions, including operational, administrative and support divisions.

Prior to his appointment as Commissioner of Police, he was serving as Head of Central Investigation Command.

Two Four has a Master of Arts in Sharia and Law from Villa College, and also underwent various training programs, including from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy of India.

Back in 2021, the police board recommended the dismissal of seven senior officials, including Two Four, who was accused of bribery. He was dismissed in accordance with the recommendation in October 2021, but was reinstated in September 2025.
