Islamic Affairs deputy removed from post for greeting Siyam at MDA event

Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs Ibrahim Asim has been dismissed after he welcomed Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) President and Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed during a campaign visit.

Sun has learned that Asim was removed from his post after he went out to greet Siyam during the MDA’s campaign event in Dhaalu Atoll for the upcoming local council elections.

Asim is an MDA member and was appointed to the deputy minister post under the party’s slot. He was appointed on 16 December 2023 and was dismissed on Wednesday.

During his two and a half years at the Islamic Ministry, Asim was regarded internally as one of the ministry’s most reliable and active officials.
